16 matches. This is a new round introduced for the 48-team format. The winners of all 12 groups, the runners-up of all 12 groups, and the 8 best third-placed teams from across the 12 groups are seeded into this round.
Round of 16 (July 4 – July 7)
4 matches. The remaining 8 teams battle for a place in the semifinals.
Quarterfinals (July 9 – July 11)
16 matches. This is a new round introduced for the 48-team format. The winners of all 12 groups, the runners-up of all 12 groups, and the 8 best third-placed teams from across the 12 groups are seeded into this round.
Semifinals (July 14 – July 15)
2 matches. The final four teams compete for a place in the World Cup Final.
Bronze Medal Match (July 18)
The two semifinal losers face off to determine third place in the tournament.
